Flurry vs Mixpanel, now that Flurry is gone

Flurry was Yahoo's free mobile analytics, and for years the default for app makers who wanted counts without paying. It's gone: Flurry's SDK and dashboard were switched off on 15 March 2024. So the question isn't Flurry or Mixpanel any more, it's what to move to. Mixpanel is one answer, with a free plan and much deeper reports; it isn't the only one.

The short version

If you still have Flurry

  • Flurry's SDK no longer reports anywhere: take it out in your next update
  • Pick its replacement by what you used it for: free counts, or reports you build
  • Your old Flurry data isn't coming back unless you exported it before the shutdown

Pick Mixpanel if

  • You want funnels, retention and cohorts you build yourself, for web and mobile
  • Your app fits in the free plan (1M events a month) or you'll pay by events after that
  • You want session replay and experiments in the same tool

Where they overlap

Both were built to record what people do in iOS and Android apps as events and show who uses the app and who comes back. Flurry was the free, ready-made one; Mixpanel is the one where you build the reports.

Where Flurry goes further

  • It was completely free, which is why so many apps had it.
  • Its reports were ready-made, with little to set up.

Where Mixpanel goes further

  • It's still here, and keeps adding things: session replay, experiments, feature flags.
  • Much deeper reports: funnels, flows and cohorts with any breakdown.
  • Web and mobile in one place, with one identity across both.

Where Apparent fits

Apps that used Flurry for free, ready-made counts often want something closer to Flurry than to Mixpanel. Firebase Analytics is the free one. If you make iOS or Android apps on your own or in a small team and would rather read a sentence than build a report, Apparent may fit better than either: who is in your app right now and what they do, from its own SDK, plus reviews and sales from App Store Connect, Google Play and RevenueCat if you connect them, with all your apps on one page.

Questions

Is Flurry Analytics still available?

No. Flurry says its mobile analytics, SDK and dashboard were sunset on 15 March 2024.

What replaced Flurry?

Flurry didn't name a successor. Free options for apps include Firebase Analytics and Mixpanel's free plan; Apparent is a paid, simpler option made only for apps.

Is Mixpanel free like Flurry was?

Up to 1 million events a month on its free plan (October 2026). Above that, Mixpanel's Growth plan is priced by events.

Do I need to remove the Flurry SDK?

It no longer reports anywhere, so it only adds weight to your app. Remove it in your next update.

What does Apparent cost?

Plans start at $10 a month, with 14 days free and no card.
