Everything an analytics tool knows about what people do comes from events. Each one has a name, a time, the person it belongs to and a few details, like the screen it happened on.
Some events are recorded for you: opening the app, each screen, updates and crashes. The ones that matter most to your app, like "plant_added", you name yourself with one line of code.
