How it's worked out
Where the price includes VAT or sales tax, the tax comes off first: a €9.99 price with 20% VAT is €8.33 before tax. The store's cut is worked out on that, and the rest is yours.
Rates checked October 2026 against Apple: App Store Small Business Program and Google: Service fees on Google Play. Some regions and programs have their own terms, such as Apple's alternative terms in the EU; type in your own rate for those.

How much does Apple take from an App Store sale?
30% at the standard rate. Developers in the App Store Small Business Program, who earned under $1 million in the previous year, pay 15%, and subscriptions drop to 15% after a subscriber's first paid year. Different terms apply in some regions, such as the EU's alternative terms.
How much does Google take from a Google Play sale?
Google introduced new fees in 2026: in the US, UK and EEA from 30 June 2026, and Australia and Japan from 30 September, subscriptions carry a 10% service fee and other purchases 20% for new installs or 25% for existing ones, plus a 5% billing fee when Google Play Billing is used. Elsewhere, until the change reaches them, the older rates apply: 15% on the first $1 million a year and on subscriptions, 30% above that.
Is the commission taken before or after VAT?
After. Where the price includes VAT or sales tax, the tax comes off first, then the store's commission is worked out on what's left.
